Though similar to the earlier Hatteras 68 and 70 Convertibles, notably different is the expansive 200 sq ft fishing cockpit with ergonomic mezzanine seating that does double duty with cockpit storage. Cupholders and air-conditioning from overhead vents add to the comfort of guests and crew watching the lines. Set up for hardcore fishing, the cockpit features large fish boxes, insulated bait boxes, integrated freezer boxes, transom livewell and a tackle center. Plenty of rod holders are in the cockpit side wings and in rocket launchers on pipework across the back of flybridge and on the tower (optional) supports. A support plate built into the cockpit sole allows an optional fighting chair or leaning post to be installed.

Hatteras has devised a platform for customers to select their own custom amenities, layout options, power plant options, fishing gear, electronics and more, to deliver semi-custom production boats with shorter build times than most custom-designed and built boats. And the advantageous ability to have a Hatteras yacht serviced anywhere in the world! Even with customization, Hatteras yachts remain distinctive with updated traditional styling—the Carolina-flared high bow, elegant sheerline, wide beam, set back flybridge, and high-gloss teak joinery imparting a bright high-end yacht interior. The convex, variable degree solid hull design tapers to nearly flat at the transom—proven to master wild inlets and offshore conditions, and provides a stable, dry ride with a soft reentry—seaworthiness that Hatteras yachts are renowned for. Deep prop tunnels keep the draft of this massive 70’ yacht with 21’ beam to a mere 5-feet! Powerful engines and smart hull design contribute to the GT70’s 41-knot top speed and 30-35 knot cruising speed performance, yet the yacht is able to spin on its own axis and back down on a big gamefish with ease.

The GT70 standard open flybridge (enclosed bridge is available) features a console style helm with a large dash displaying four 19” multifunction screens, is clean, functional, and easy to use with all systems within the captain’s reach. Three helm chairs, long bench seats with storage underneath on port and starboard sides, an aft-facing seat on the bridge forward bulkhead, and a bench seat with storage below is on front side of the helm console, provide lots of seating on the bridge. Drink boxes are in the forward corners of the bridge and freezers are on forward sides of helm console.

The salon is entered from the cockpit to port of the mezzanine through a door, not sliders. A large aft window and the new teardrop side windows fill the main interior cabin with natural light. A large L-shaped settee with storage below is to starboard and pop-up TV is in cabinetry to port. The traditionally equipped galley is forward to port and slightly elevated with a large island station doubling as a bar. Three barstools are on aft side of island counter and four refrigerated drawers are on forward side. The dinette that seats five-six people is to starboard and also elevated, for subtle separation from the salon and entertainment center.

The lower accommodations area can be configured a few different ways, a 5-stateroom, 4-head layout is standard with beautiful, high-gloss woodwork and understated elegance. The master stateroom with queen berth and ensuite head is forward of amidships, VIP guest stateroom with queen berth and private head is forward in the bow area, and the other guest or crew staterooms feature bunks or a single berth. All have plenty of storage, efficient valence mounted A/C vents, and excellent sound attenuation for great sleeping conditions. Washer/dryer closet and rod storage locker are in companionway.

Engine room is well-designed for access to main engines, gensets, pumps, and other machinery and equipment. Each engine has its own sea chest. Generators share a third and another handles the balance of raw water pickups. Electrical wire runs are neatly bundled. Space is available for optional Seakeeper gyrostabilizers.

The Hatteras GT70 is 73’8” including bow pulpit. Beam is 21’4” maximum and draft is an even 5-feet. Fuel tankage is 2140 gallons and water capacity is 330 gallons. Standard engine package is the twin Caterpillar C-32A 1900 HP engines; optional twin MTU 2600 HP engines are available. Two 21.5kW diesel generators provide liveaboard comfort. Weight is 120,000 lbs.
