Biography

Bruce’s love of the water began in an unlikely place — the windswept prairies of Oklahoma, where he learned to sail at just 14 years old. As Bruce likes to say, “when the trees grow at a 45-degree angle, a handkerchief is about all the sail you need.”

Inspired by the ocean adventures of Robin Lee Graham and years spent pouring over National Geographic, Bruce set his sights on the sea early in life. Immediately after graduating high school, he joined the United States Coast Guard and headed to Cape May to begin his maritime journey.

Following boot camp, Bruce was assigned to a 378-foot cutter based in Boston, serving on drug interdiction patrols throughout the Caribbean Windward Passage, including operations near Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. He later transferred to the renowned Merrimack River Lifeboat Station in Newburyport, Massachusetts — one of the East Coast’s most respected search-and-rescue stations — where he captained both the classic 41-foot and 44-foot motor lifeboats. His Coast Guard experience built the foundation for a lifelong passion for boats, the ocean, and the boating community.

After completing his military service, Bruce attended Oklahoma State University, earning double majors in Agricultural Economics and Accounting, along with a Master’s Degree in Taxation.

While building a successful 38-year professional career, he continued pursuing his passion for boating through the ownership of five cruising sailboats and a trawler ranging from 27 to 46 feet.

Over the past three decades, Bruce has cruised waters from Portsmouth, New Hampshire to the British Virgin Islands, gaining extensive firsthand experience not only in boating, but also in the realities of boat ownership and maintenance.

Today, through his partnership with United Yacht Sales, Bruce combines real-world boating knowledge, professionalism, and integrity to help clients successfully buy and sell boats.

Whether assisting sellers in presenting their vessel to qualified buyers worldwide or helping buyers find that elusive “needle-in-a-haystack” dream boat, Bruce is committed to making every client’s experience informed, enjoyable, and successful.
